History Of Anna United Methodist Church The Anna United Methodist Church has deep roots extending back into the late 19th century. Around 1883, Methodist Anna pioneers began holding service Sunday afternoons in the Christian Church, who graciously shared their facility. By 1890 a Church lot was purchased from H.T.C. Railroad through the efforts of Captain Frances Henry Welch, the Hornsby, Guthrie, Holt and other families, and the AUMC was soon organized with 13 charter members. By the time the first church was built, membership had blossomed to 32 people, including the Welch, Bates, Stinnett, Lindsey, Smith, Howell, and Harris families. The church as we know it today is the second building, dating back to 1931, when the original, deteriorated building was replaced. During the early 1990’s the R. C. O’Neal Fellowship and Educational Building was added. In 2005, we refinished the siding on the sanctuary and remodeled our annex, preserving the original appearance of our rural church. Throughout these 119 years, AUMC has continued to grow as a spiritual force for the disciples of Christ and also as a Church that demonstrates for Christ through works for the Anna community. Outreach is a hallmark of Anna Methodist. God has blessed us with the place and space to minister to His people, and we pray that God will guide us to minister to the world in a pleasing way to Him. We want to be here, doing this for our Lord! |
